It is probably overheating. Turn it off and open it. Check to see if it is full of dust and that the fans are spinning. If it is full of dust, go get a can of compressed air, and blow it out carefully. (including the power supply)

I’d lean more towards maybe an overheating issue.
When you talk about checking memory, it’s the physical RAM stick inside the computer. RAM does not have sectors like a hard disk drive. This is what the 512MB represents. You could try installing a utility to test that electronics module or replace it.
If it does happen to be bad I’d replace it with at least 1GB to 2GB. 512MB is really low.
There are a lot of things that can cause a computer to shut down. If you are unsuccessful at resolving the problem visit a repair shop.

do this in the run window type msconfig>start up> uncheck all the boxes and try again if you dont get any more shut down you have a program causing it probably a virus…if you cant open msconfig try regedit, if you cant open any of these you definetly have a virus in your system

as it is said it may be heating problem
but i had the same experience with my PC.
it was because of a software (“Microsoft security essentials “). uninstalling the software solved the problem.
